Announcing my newest itinerary – and the start of a new series

Bangkok PDF cover small

It’s not very often a single project takes over my life.

Behind the scenes, I’ve been rather busy over the past few weeks putting the finishing touches on a new project – a mash-up of a Choose Your Own Adventure® style book and a Lonely Planet® travel guide. I call it Choose a Way™, and this guide to Bangkok is the first one in the series. (The next one about Seoul is coming soon – travel writers, I’ve got a great opportunity for you over here!)

See Bangkok on your own terms!

Just like the old-school Choose Your Own Adventure® books, the choices are up to you. Would you rather go to the palace, the museum dedicated to Batman, or a relaxing park in the heart of downtown?

Each day offers more than 800 possible paths to take.

Also inside are GPS coordinates, links to Google Maps, and precise directions using public transportation. No more stumbling around foreign streets hoping to find a street sign, or asking locals where a place is. Travel confidently and independently – and best of all, there are no bad endings!

A serious amount of consideration has gone into the choices offered, keeping things balanced and fun while paying attention to  possible routings. This actually takes longer than the visiting, writing, and photographing COMBINED. The result, however, is a full-fledged guide with replay value – whether you use it as a planning tool or while traveling, it’s helpful, great with directions, and full of surprises. Each day’s run-through opens up less than 15% of the possible places – use the cheats at the end of each day to see them all, or click the links to see how many you can find without them!.

This guide covers thirty-five of Bangkok’s most interesting sites – mainstream, offbeat, indoors, outdoors, kid-friendly, for adults only, and more! Start in the morning, based on what time you’re ready to go, and start tapping the links.

FAQ’s:

How are these different from the itineraries you’ve written before?

The simplest answer: my previous itineraries all took a single path through the city and town. Routes were carefully designed to keep your stops close to each other, while highlighting some excellent places. The books in this series feature more places, more choices, and give you the reader more control.

What devices will these guides work on?

amazon

The Amazon version will work on any Kindle device or app, from the very first Kindle 1 to the top of the line device available today. Guides use Kindle’s flexible layout, meaning you’ll have your choice of fonts and font sizes, as determined by your device.

PDF1

The PDF version will work on any device where you can read PDF files – computers, tablets, smartphones, and so on.

What factors do you use to select the choices that are available?

To name a few:

  • The best time to visit – some places are best seen in the morning or evening, for example, while others are only open for evenings or weekends.

  • The weather – you probably don’t want to be walking long distances in the heat or cold! For the Bangkok guide, every single afternoon destination is in an air-conditioned building or has plenty of shaded spots to take a break under.

  • Whether a place is safe for kids or not. Only a small fraction aren’t kid-friendly, and these are clearly marked on the choice. There’s always a option for a kid-friendly place at every junction.

  • Whether your next place is nearby – some are, some aren’t. You’ve given hints to help you make your choice, though!

About Choose a Way™ books:
