As we finish up our time in Khon Kaen, we found ourselves at a destination we’ve often passed, yet never entered. Opened in June 2012, the Ton Tann Market aims to combine food, drink, art, and shopping in a fair place to take a date. I kind of wonder about the modern art seen above, though…
Part of the artsier side – for something that’s only a couple of years old there’s a surprising amount of wear.
While there’s an open-air area to eat and drink from plenty of restaurants, Brew’s selection is significantly more upscale – and international. I didn’t need to look at the menu for long before realizing they have one of the biggest selections in the city. It’s also set apart from the rest of the area, and near a message place.
The aforementioned open-air area with restaurants and plenty of places to get a Chang beer. Another larger area is further on for what looked like events, but I didn’t see many people there.
Shopping, anyone? Plenty of clothes, iPhone cases, knockoff Louis Vuitton bags, and other stuff is around- there isn’t much that’s unique here, but it’s a fine place for those oddball clothes or iPhone cases (not pictured: an iPhone case that reads “Keep Calm and Wait for iPhone 6″).
Go ahead, get a selfie with a letter almost as tall as you are. You know you want to. Some weirdly-decorated horses are behind them, if you’d rather get a selfie with them.
Again, part of the artsier side. You’re pretty close to the Khon Kaen horse racing track, making this a perfect place to go after you’ve watched the horses.
A little pond in the middle, complete with plenty of fish.
While very little is in English, people are friendly enough. It’s a fine place to spend an hour or two – or simply if you’re killing some time relatively close to Khon Kaen’s train station. It’s not really weird, of course, but sometimes it’s nice to enjoy a mainstream place.
