Indie Rock Band Asian Chairshot, having made its debut in the later half of 2011, quickly caught the attention of music critics when the members were invited to perform at a major music festival (Jarasum International Jazz Festival) within the first six months of establishment.
The band consists of three members: Hwang Youngwon (bass and vocals), Son Heenam (guitar), and Park Kyewan (drums). Those who are familiar with wrestling might know how the group came up with its name. The term “chair shot” is a powerful, and perhaps illegal, move many professional wrestlers use to knock out their opponents. And just like a “chair shot,” the trio’s hard-hitting mix of psychedelic music, garage rock, and alternative rock usually has little trouble stopping people dead in their tracks.
Asian Chairshot recently released digital single “Petrifaction” last week, and will tour the U.K. from May 2 to May 12. The exact locations are listed in the poster below. The band will also fly over to Singapore to perform at the Mosaic Music Festival before heading back to South Korea for its first studio album release on May 28. Word has it that Smashing Pumpkin‘s guitarist Jeff Schroeder worked on the upcoming album.
This is a great opportunity for those who are in town and want something different than the normal K-Pop!
