Jung Woo Sung’s new movie “The Divine Move” has got off to a flying start, opening first at box offices despite competing against anticipated movies such as “Transformers 4” and “Mourning Grave. “
According to the Korean Film Council’s box office ticket statistics, “The Divine Move” was seen by 181052 movie goers on July 3, taking the top position at the box offices. Total viewer count for “The Divine Move” so far is an impressive 254,921 in just 3 days.
“The Divine Move” featuring Jung Woo Sung, Lee Si Young, Ahn Sung Gi and Lee Beom Soo is about a pro-baduk/Go player that is out to seek revenge after being framed for murder. The movie’s title is a Baduk reference, a move in the game that results in the opposition being unable to move and thus loses, essentially a checkmate in Chess. The movie was directed by Director Jo Beom Go, previously responsible for movies such as “Bar Legend” and “Quick“
The movie had got off to a comfortable start on pre opening day airings on July 2, slotting in at 2nd place at the box offices with 67,327 viewers. It then quickly rose up to 1st place on official opening day on July 3. The performance is especially noticeable as the R rated “The Divine Move” has managed to push out the highly anticipated teen rated “Transformers 4″ despite the age restriction disadvantage.
Whether the movie continues to perform through the rest of the week and hold first place during its first week remains to be seen.
Meanwhile on the same day, “Transformers 4″ took 2nd place and was seen by a total of 109,087 viewers (Aggregate total of 3,195,810) while “Morning Grave” came third with 53,41 viewers (Aggregate total of 77,139).
