Taeyang’s “Eye, Nose, Lips” is No. 1 for the third consecutive week! Despite strong challengers, this song is still ranked at or near the top in all our chart sources. “Eye, Nose, Lips” won over San E and Raina’s duet “A Midsummer Night’s Sweetness” for a second week in a row, even though the gap is only 13 points this week. Congratulations to Taeyang once again.
There are many changes in the rest of the top 10 as we have five new songs. At No. 3 is BEAST’s “Good Luck,” moving up from No. 15 last week. This is the title track of BEAST’s sixth mini-album. It has additive rhythm and is about a man who wishes his ex good luck after they broke up. The vocals have a sense of restraint to demonstrate the man will remain strong after suffering the heartache. “Good Luck” won on KBS Music Bank, MBC Music Core, and SBS Inkigayo last week and continues to rack up wins this week as well. It should challenge “Eye, Nose, Lips” for the top spot next week.
Moving up 19 spots to No. 5 is hip-hop duo Dynamic Duo’s latest hit “Summer Time.” It is a vibrant song perfect for this summer. It tells listeners to escape from their boring lives and go out partying before the sunset. Dynamic Duo is one of the more hardcore hip-hop groups that enjoy mainstream success. They song “BAAAM” became a huge hit last year. Let see if “Summer Time” will carry on their chart success.
At No. 7, it is a very special collaboration between members of two top vocal groups: Shin Yong Jae of 4MEN, and Lee Hae Ri of Davichi. They recently participated in an acoustic project and released the first single “Your Empty Space” with a theme about clouds. Well known songwriter Choi Gyu Sung created this duet for the two great vocalists.
Also moving up 19 spots to No. 8 is AOA’s new hit song “Short Hair.” It is the title track from AOA’s first mini-album. Brave Brothers, who wrote AOA’s first No. 1 song “Miniskirt” earlier this year, is back to work with the girls again on this groovy dance song. The lyrics explain why women want to cut short their hair after a breakup.
Moving up seven spots to No. 10 is one of last year’s top R&B rookie Bumkey. His self written latest hit “Home” is a very special song dedicated to his wife at their recent wedding. The lyrics express his true feeling towards his wife, DJ Kang Da Hye. Even though it is meant to be a personal song, Bumkey decided to release it as a single to share with his fans.
2014 HALF YEAR TOP 10 SONGS:
Below are the top 10 songs on our chart in the first half of 2014. Due to the Sewol Ferry Accident, the music industry was at a complete stop for a few weeks in April and May with no new major releases. Even though our charts had continued every week during that time, the results this year may not be as accurate as years past as some of the songs might have stayed on the chart for longer than they should during the hiatus.
