May’s Ultimate Playlist: Puking Pink Bunnies and Rainbows

It’s spring! The birds are chirping, people are falling in love, your eyes are burning, and your nose is running from some sort of allergy. It’s all very magical. After a long, long winter (especially for those in the northern hemisphere – NO MORE SNOW!) and countless MVs that have way too many hip thrusts, people are in the need for some good old fashioned cute. You know, the I’m-going-to-barf-rainbows-and-bunnies kind of music. I appreciate a sexy hip thrust more than the next girl, but every once in a while, I am in need of some upbeat MVs plastered with pink clothes and winks. To usher in the wonderful warm weather, here is our border-line nauseating list of cute music.

APINK - “MR. CHU”

It’s a pink lover’s dream. The freaking tennis court is pink. The MV and song is cuteness overload but it’s still great. I find it hard to watch Eunji act cute after seeing her in Reply 1997, but she pulls it off. Take a deep breath and feel the aegyo take over.

ORANGE CARAMEL - “CATALLENA”

Disco is alive! This song is awesome and very catchy. As for the MV, who knew aegyo concepts could induce drama? People were upset over the girls being inside plastic wrap and “disregarding human life.” I did feel the walls closing in on me watching them wrapped in that plastic, but the immense aegyo quickly stopped that. Just don’t expect to eat sushi for a while after this.

CRAYON POP – “UH-EE”

You thought I was going to pick “Bar Bar Bar”? I was, but then I figured you all listened to that song all winter long. Let’s get fresh! This song is not as great as “Bar Bar Bar” but it’s still fun. It’s a great song to just let loose with. I feel like I should be playing DDR while I listen to it. Plus it has a very old school trot feel to it. The MV is weird and the fashion is horrid, but if you don’t look and just jump up and down like crazy, you’ll enjoy it, I promise.

VIXX- “G.R.8.U”

Not all aegyo type songs have to be girl groups. If K-pop has taught me anything, it is to not buy into gender stereotypes. Although, I still don’t know how the hell to say the title of this song. It’s still perfect for this list. Mad props to all the members for rapping/singing backwards in this MV, especially Ravi. Even Leo, sort of, kind of, possibly, a tiny bit, looked happy. Just a little.

B.A.P – “STOP IT”

To be honest, B.A.P and the cute concept just don’t make sense to me. However, after seeing them do this song live, I kind of got it stuck in my head on repeat. It’s a refreshing song that I imagine would sound great cruising with the top down to the beach with Yongguk in the drivers seat. (I do not have a convertible and it’s still too cold, so I am just dreaming. The Yongguk part, though, is totally going to happen.) The MV is sort of weird and creepy, but besides that, it’s an addicting song.

T-ARA – ” BO PEEP BO PEEP”

Did you know there was a sexy version and a cute version to this MV? Why CCM needed to make a sexy version of a very obviously cute song, makes no sense. But add it to the list of poor decisions CCM makes on T-ara’s behalf. This song is probably one of the most epic aegyo songs ever. I actually love this song and really wanted to be a T-ara fan. Even “Roly Poly” had me hooked, but CCM has screwed up their image so much, I just can not deal. I’ll just put those two songs on repeat and dream of what could have been.

Infinite – “Man in Love”

How to kill a fangirl: release countless sexy MVs and then all of a sudden release a gem of a song like this one. Now all those fangirls are not only imagining the hip thrusts, but also the possibility of those hips being their sweet, cute boyfriend. Thank you, Woollim. Thank you, K-pop. You’ll be subconsciously drawing hearts while listening to it.

SUPER JUNIOR - “NO OTHER”

Romantic and cute. This MV is a great one to try to memorize who is who in Super Junior. It’s not set in the normal SM style dark box and actually shows the members faces clearly. The song itself is really adorable and Eunhyuk’s rap will have you swooning. This was the song that hooked me onto SuJu.

GOT7 – “I LIKE YOU”

I know, I know. This doesn’t quite fit the aegyo concept and it doesn’t have an official MV, but have you seen the “boyfriend version” of the dance practice? It’s like sexy-aegyo overload. I’d use precaution while watching and listening. It’s a pretty awesome song and you won’t regret putting it on your list.

TVXQ – “BALLOONS”

I am cringing right now. I am trying very hard to not puke bunnies. This song is the ultimate aegyo song and tops the list. It’s not for the faint of heart. It’s cuteness overload, and if you’re into that, then this will be perfect! It’s a refreshing song for the season. The outfits, on the other hand, are borderline creepy. Hey, some people like a grown man in a cat outfit… I’ll stick with hip thrusting and leather pants.

So, there it is! everyone needs some cuteness, hearts, rainbows and unicorns in their life. Especially for the spring! Breath it in, breath in all the happiness. I, on the other hand, am going to go replay the “Ultimate Baby Making Playlist” so I feel sane again.
